Test the information people need to read
Roboto combines a largely geometric structure with open curves. Steve Matteson’s Open Sans is a humanist design with upright stress and open forms. Start with either for labels or supporting text, then decide using your actual content and viewing size.
Include a room number, a time and a sentence with punctuation. Inspect Il1 and O0 in context, and compare lowercase a, e and g. Reduce the size to match your planned caption, then check Bold for emphasis. This is a visual comparison, not an accessibility or readability certification.
Use the same width and size to see differences in line breaks. The printed handout keeps your chosen type size instead of shrinking one font to match the other. This comparison uses the standard Roboto and Open Sans families, without their condensed variants.
Try a heading, a name or a sentence from your project. Compare how each typeface handles capitals, punctuation and longer words. The same numeric size preserves differences in letter height and width between fonts.
How can I compare fonts with my own text and print a sample sheet?
Replace the example with your text, choose up to ten fonts and set the font size. Select A4 or US Letter, then choose Download handout PDF. Each sample is labeled with its font name. Short samples share a sheet where space allows; longer text continues onto more pages at the same font size.
How is this different from the text generator?
This tool gives you compact font samples and a comparison handout. Choose “Use this font” when you are ready to add colors, backgrounds or padding and export a finished graphic. The text generator’s combined PDF keeps one design per page.
Will all my samples fit on one sheet?
Short samples can share one sheet. The handout keeps each sample together when it fits, and continues longer samples onto new pages with the font name repeated. It preserves your font size instead of shrinking individual fonts. Exports support up to 100 pages.
What about missing characters or bold and italic?
Some font families do not contain all characters or styles. Your browser may use another font for unsupported characters or simulate bold and italic. Simulated styles are noted beside samples and in the handout. Check the characters you plan to use before choosing your font.
Is my text saved when I switch tools?
Using “Compare these fonts” or “Use this font” temporarily carries your text and settings within this browser tab. The transfer is removed when the other tool reads it, expires after ten minutes, and is never added to the URL or sent to FontStyleLab. Ordinary visits start with example text.
