Fonts, artwork & licences

Understand how you can use, share and sell finished designs, and which licences apply to built-in artwork and fonts.

Images, templates and finished designs

For rights held by FontStyleLab in its built-in artwork and templates, we grant you a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use them in finished designs under the terms below. No attribution to FontStyleLab or per-sale payment is required, and there is no limit on the number of permitted finished products you may sell.

Use, personalize, print and share finished designs for personal, classroom and business purposes, including distributing materials to students and creating marketing materials.
Sell finished printed products, including cards, invitations, posters and stationery. You may use a printing or print-on-demand service to produce them.
Create paid client work and deliver finished files, such as a personalized invitation PDF or PNG. Clients and printers may use those files for the intended finished product, without receiving a separate licence to extract or redistribute the built-in assets.
Sell finished digital products when you add substantial original content, such as a worksheet pack with your own exercises and explanations. Supply a finished document or image, not an editable template or a collection of separately reusable built-in assets. Changing only colours, size or file format, or bundling our ready-made designs, does not qualify.

You may not sell or redistribute FontStyleLab’s built-in artwork as standalone clipart or stock assets, repackage its ready-made collections for resale, or make its built-in templates or artwork available as a reusable library in another website, app or template pack. These restrictions also apply to free distribution of the underlying assets; they do not prevent sharing permitted finished designs or keeping private project backups.

This licence does not transfer ownership of the built-in materials or grant exclusive rights to them. Other users may use the same materials. FontStyleLab reserves only the rights it holds that are not expressly granted here. Separate font and third-party licences continue to apply; these terms do not limit permissions granted by those licences or rights available under applicable law.

Your own content

You retain any rights you hold in the text, photos, logos and other content you supply. FontStyleLab does not claim ownership of that content. You are responsible for having the permissions needed for your intended use, including any third-party copyright, trademark or image rights. Our built-in content licence does not grant those permissions or restrict independent use of your own content.

Your graphics and printed lettering

Our tools display fonts, render your text to PNG and PDF, and create SVG letter outlines. You can style or curve the resulting lettering and use it in presentations, posters, classroom materials or commercial designs, subject to the font’s licence.

For OFL fonts, the licence does not require an attribution watermark on your artwork, or require your artwork to use the OFL. It also permits use in commercial applications, including services funded by ads or paid features. These permissions concern the font; they do not grant rights to someone else’s text, logo or other content.

Sharing font files is a separate activity

When redistributing an OFL font file, retain its original copyright and licence notices. Modifying the font software can involve additional conditions, including Reserved Font Names; selling the font on its own is restricted. Read the full SIL Open Font License for those terms. Exporting a picture or outlines of your lettering does not distribute an installable font.

Where the fonts come from

The text generator and font comparison tools serve selected and previewed fonts from FontStyleLab’s own server. The licence belongs to each font’s respective copyright holders; there is no single “Google licence” covering the whole catalogue. The notices below identify each family’s licence and copyright holders. You can also visit Google Fonts for family information.

The outline tools and the Playfair Display pairing guide use 1036 locally hosted font faces. All of those catalogue entries have OFL notices linked below. The website interface uses locally hosted Mulish.

Font loading and privacy

Font previews and downloads load fonts from FontStyleLab. Your browser does not contact Google to load fonts, and your entered text is not included in font requests. See our privacy policy for other service requests and analytics.

Fonts opened from your device

The outline tools can open a supported font file from your device. It stays in the page’s memory and is not uploaded to FontStyleLab. You need permission under that file’s own licence for your intended use, including commercial work or outline exports. Our bundled-font licences do not cover files you supply.

Bundled font notices

Each link opens the original copyright and SIL Open Font License notice. Faces sharing a notice are grouped together; Mulish is included for the website interface.

Text generator and comparison fonts

Each family’s notice includes its copyright information and applicable licence. Font files are served unchanged; their original notices are retained.
