A guide to your activity

What you can make and how to use it

A cloze activity is a passage with selected words missing: students use the surrounding text to fill each gap. This free cloze activity maker turns your own text into a gap-fill exercise for vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension or subject revision. You choose every missing word instead of relying on automatic deletion.

How to get started

  1. Paste a short passage, then select the individual words below it that should become gaps. For example, remove the verbs in a paragraph to practise verb forms, or key science terms to review a lesson.
  2. Keep the word bank for a supported exercise, or turn it off for a harder recall task. The worksheet preview updates as you choose gaps. Editing the passage clears the gap selection so you can review it again.
  3. Start the activity for online practice, or download an A4 or US Letter worksheet PDF. Include the answer key for marking, or leave it out of the student copy.

Common questions

Can I choose only one occurrence of a repeated word?

Yes. Each occurrence is a separate choice, so you can hide one word and leave the same word visible elsewhere as a clue. You can also share a text-only student link; it includes the answers and is suitable for practice rather than a secure test.

Can I save my activity for another lesson?

Yes. Save a project in this browser or download a project backup to open later. A backup is useful when moving devices or clearing browser storage. Shared links are independent copies; later changes and results do not sync.
